The Stonewall Democrats of Alachua County work to elect openly lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) and LGBT-equality-minded Democrats, educate fellow Democrats on issues important to the LGBT community, and inform the LGBT community why the Democratic Party is the party of inclusiveness and equality for all.
Meetings:
Monthly meetings are the 4th Wednesday of the month at 6pm, held at the Alachua County Democratic Party Center (901 NW 8 Ave., Suite A-3). See the CALENDAR to confirm monthly dates and times of meetings.
About the name:
The Stonewall Democrats of Alachua County are named in honor of the Stonewall Riots of 1969, which are often considered the first instance in American history where the LGBT community fought back against persecution. The riots are thought of as the defining event which marked the beginning of the LGBT rights movement in the United States and around the world.
