Bill Rettinger, President of the Florida Disabilities Caucus, passed away last month. Bill’s first Vice-President has resigned his office, leaving Fred Pratt, the second Vice President, as acting President of the state caucus until a planned election held in Orlando in June.
Fred has said he would like to attend the convention in June, but has no means of transportation. Having been bed-ridden for over a year Fred would require special care to travel. If anyone can help fulfill his wish please call Fred at 352 214-8472 or Anna Angell at 352 665-3947.
Our Alachua County Disabilities Caucus supports the Democratic Women’s Club of Florida in promoting the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in Florida. Only two states are needed to ratify the ERA before equality becomes the 27th Amendment to the United States Constitution.
The Florida ERA (SCR 194) was introduced in 2015 but died in the Judiciary Committee. It has consistently been killed in the committee process and has not been presented for a floor vote in both the House and Senate of Florida simultaneously in over 15 years. The text follows:
“Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State on account of sex.”
