Vote By Mail (Used to be called absentee voting)

For the general election in November

The VBM Ballot must be received no later than 7:00 PM on Election day.

You can request a VBM Ballot until October 29, but you should not wait until then if you can avoid it. You may call the SOE at 352-374-5252 and ask for one to be mailed or go to https://alachua.electionsfl.org/vrservices/mbrs# to request one

If you will be out of town during the period of October 24 to November 8 you will want to request a vote by mail (VBM) ballot. It can be sent to your home or, if you will be out of town for an extended period, you may have it sent to the address where you will be staying. If requested in advance, ballots are mailed to voters between 40-33 days before  election day. So, they will begin to be mailed around the end of September.

You can request a VBM Ballot even if you plan to be in town during the voting period. If you receive a VBM Ballot you can change your mind and vote in person. So, if you are not sure how you want to vote, requesting a VBM Ballot gives you maximum flexibility.

VBM Ballots cannot be forwarded so if you have moved since you requested one you will need to update your voter information and request a VBM Ballot be sent to the new address.

Read and follow the instructions carefully.

It is especially important to sign the outside of the mailing envelop. The signature you use must be the same one the Supervisor of elections (SOE) has on file. We recommend you include at least one contact method on the back of the ballot so the SOE can contact you if there is a problem. If you do not sign the ballot or the signature does not match your vote WILL NOT BE COUNTED. The SOE will try to contact you if there is a “signature issue”, and you will have until November 10 at 5:00 PM to “cure” (fix) the problem. It is important to return the VBM Ballot timely. It does not require a stamp. The VBM Ballot must be received no later than 7:00 PM on Election day. You cannot drop your VBM Ballot off at your voting precinct on Election day. We recommend getting it in the US mail no later than October 29. You can drop it off at the Secure Ballot Intake Station (dropbox) at any early voting site during early voting. Early voting sites are shown  https://www.votealachua.gov/Voters/Early-Voting. You may bring it to the SOE office before early voting begins and drop it off at the Secure Ballot Intake Station located in the front of the building or bring it upstairs to the SOE office
