The role of DEC members is to connect the Democrats in their precinct to the DEC and to work to elect Democrats county-wide. Per our bylaws (ART IV, SEC I), the responsibilities of the Elected members of the DEC are as follows:

Each DEC member shall work to represent the views of the registered Democrats in their precinct to the DEC and support the DEC by actively promoting the philosophy and interests of the Democratic Party in every manner available to them. Each member shall also work to identify potential candidates for public office and refer them for assistance.

To become a member, you’ll need to fill out an application to be reviewed. The application includes:

  • Membership Application

  • Oath of Candidacy: Must be notarized. Supplied by and returned to the Alachua County Supervisor of Elections.

  • Democratic Party Loyalty Oath: This form can be notarized or have two witnesses.

The Alachua County Democratic Executive Committee (DEC) is the governing body of the Democratic Party in Alachua County. Our voting members are also known as precinct committee persons.

To become a voting member, you must reside in Alachua County, be a registered Democrat, and be voted on by the current body to represent your voting precinct. DEC members are required to attend our monthly general membership meeting and represent the views of Democrats in their precinct to the DEC.
